~i i~.~ ri iii iii
~~~r~~~r/~~/~~r/!~ ~~1
Public Works
AUGUST 23, 1996 Administration
City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
CONTACT: John Etter, Park Planning, 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
{503) 887-5262
From Public Information Section, 687-5262
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW PARK TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN NORTHWEST EUGENE
Construction of a new neighborhood park in northwest Eugene is expected to start next
week.
Mangan Park is located north of Barger Drive, east of Beitiine and west of Highway 99.
In response to requests from area neighbors and the Active Bethel Citizens neighborhood group,
the Eugene Public Works Department last fall prepared a development plan that includes a
central play field and areas for a playground, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, picnic tables,
benches, drinking fountains, paved paths, and landscaping.
The f rst step in constructing the improvements will be the removal of approximately
3,500 cubic yards of soil piled on the park during subdivision construction. The contractor for
the Beltline-Barger overpass about a quarter mile from the park needs fill material and will haul
the soil away without cost to the City. Construction of the play area, basketball court and
concrete paths in the northern portion of the park will occur later this fall. Funding for the
project is provided through the City's systems development fund.
