Research Park Manager Diane Wiley said Campbell plans atwo-story building and <br /> will meet next with the Research Park's Design Advisory Committee to review plans. The <br /> building is being designed by WBGS Architects of Eugene. <br /> The Riverfront Research Park is a cooperative venture of the University of Oregon, the City <br /> of Eugene and a private developer, Research Park Associates (RPA) of Salt Lake City, which has <br /> <br /> ICI development rights for the first sector of the park. RPA has assigned its rights to Campbell to <br /> construct the new building. <br /> <br /> ~I <br /> <br /> ~i The park is being constructed according to the master site plan approved in 1988, and will <br /> <br /> ~I <br /> eventually provide about one million square feet of space for research-related companies drawing <br /> on the nearby expertise of the University. The park's first building was opened in 1993. That <br /> 60,000 square foot building is fully leased, housing eight tenants involved in software <br /> development, artificial intelligence, and multi-media. The second building, a former UO <br /> research lab which was renovated and opened as the Innovation Center in 1994, provides space <br /> <br /> it for emerging high-tech companies. <br /> Marker Gene Technologies is a biotechnology company working on new therapeutic <br /> <br /> ~ regimens for the treatment of cancer, bacterial infections and genetic diseases. The company has <br /> <br /> ~II received several federal and state grants including ones from the National Science Foundation <br /> <br /> I~ <br /> <br /> ~li and National Institutes of Health. Company founder, John Naleway, said "Our collaboration <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> ~i, with the sciences at the University of Oregon, combined with our location in the research park, <br /> have been critical to our company's growth and success.
