City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
CONTACT: Bob Hammitt, Maintenance Director, 687-5221 or 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
FROM: Public Information Section, 687-5523
SNOW EMERGENCY CONTINUES; DOWN TREES ARE A HAZARD
The snow emergency declared at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, remains in effect. The
emergency declaration bans parking on snow emergency routes, which are arterials, collectors
i
streets, and bus routes. This allows emergency vehicles, buses, and City sanding trucks and
snow plows to operate safely. All vehicles parked or stranded on designated snow emergency
routes should be removed immediately.
This morning, the biggest problem is heavy accumulations of snow causing tree hazards.
Due to down trees, Lorane Highway has been closed between 28th Avenue and Emray. Public
Works expects the road will remain closed until at least 8 or 9 a.m.
Residents are advised to be very cautious around trees this morning. Limbs may be
cracked or broken and could fail at any time, particularly if the tree is shaken. If a tree or limb
appears to be touching a power line or there are other signs of an electrical safety hazard, call
EWEB at 484-2300. Do not touch any down power lines or trees in contact with power lines.

i
If a street tree is damaged or if a tree or limbs have fallen into the street or across a
sidewalk, call Eugene Public Works at 687-5220. If a tree is damaged or has fallen on private
property, it is the property owner's responsibility to correct any unsafe or hazardous conditions.
To avoid the personal risks associated with pruning or removing a hazard tree, contact a
professional tree service.
