News Releas Fall Leaf Program Focuses on Recycling
October 16, 995
Page 3

i

i
•The illakenzie and north Eugene area, including Silver Lane and Sterling Drive, is
scheduled fo leaf collection November 20 through November 22. A second pickup is

I

~ scheduled fo January 2 through January 5.
•The outhwest Eugene area, which includes the area west of Willamette Street and

i
south of 18 Avenue, will be picked up November 27 through December 1 and again
December 2 through December 29.
City rews cannot collect scattered leaves or leaf piles that are stacked under or very
close to par d cars. Debris other than leaves such as branches, rocks, metal, and lawn
clippings wi not be collected. Residents should pile leaves in the street the weekend before

~ the schedule pickup to ensure leaves are picked up during the scheduled collection times.
Residents ar asked not to place their leaves in the street more than a week before their
scheduled pi kup because even properly piled leaves can contribute to drainage and
stormwater ollution problems. After the last scheduled pickup in each area, property owners
will be resp nsible for removing any leaves that are left in front of their homes.
Stree s without curbs and gutters are normally picked up only during the second half of
the schedule Bike lanes along major arterials will be picked up weekly.
"Lea piles are the responsibility of the property owner until City crews collect them,
so property wners are ultimately liable for any traffic hazard they create by placing leaves in
the street," utioned Street Maintenance Supervisor Richard Zucker.
