r~ <br /> j <br /> Tw Owen Rose Garden tours will be offered. The first tour on Sunday, May 21, <br /> showcases he extensive Old Garden roses which bloom from mid-April through May. The <br /> second tou , on Sunday, June 4, focuses on the more modern roses which typically are in <br /> peak bloo in mid-June. Both tours are from 1-2:30 p.m. and begin under the arbor next to <br /> the parkin lot in the park. <br /> i <br /> j Th George E. Owen Memorial Rose Garden is located on the banks of the <br /> Willamett River just west of Skinner Butte Park. Founded in 1950, the 9-acre garden is an <br /> ~I <br /> 'I All Ameri an Rose Selection (AARS) accredited garden and a charter member of the <br /> Herita a ose Foundation. The garden encompasses more than 5,400 rosebushes in a <br /> g <br /> multitude f varieties and colors. Many of the Old Garden roses were donated by Roy <br /> I <br /> Hennessy n the mid-1960s. The extensive collection of hybrid tea roses, grandifloras, <br /> ~I <br /> i floribunda and climbing roses add depth to the park's beauty. <br /> A ple parking is available at the north end of Jefferson Street. Bicyclists can reach <br /> the garden by following the riverside bike path.
