Stormwater Volunteers Recognized for Adopting Local Natural Areas <br /> You are in ited to join Mayor Ruth Bascom on Tuesday, May 16, from 7 - 8:30 p.m., at the <br /> Eugene Pu lic Library as she recognizes six groups for their "adoption" of a local creek or <br /> ~ pond. Thes groups will receive certificates that recognize their willingness to make a two- <br /> ' ! year commi ment to become stewards of a stream, wetland, or pond in Eugene. <br /> The six gro ps include the McKinley Neighbors for adopting Amazon Creek from City View <br /> to Oak Pat ;Friends of Delta Ponds for adopting Delta Ponds; Friends of Dianna's Pond for <br /> adopting Di na's Pond; Central Presbyterian Church for adopting Willow Creek Wetlands; <br /> Southeast eighborhood Association for adopting the Upper Amazon Creek; and Miracle on <br /> 33rd Street eighbors for adopting Amazon Creek from 30th to 33rd avenues. Adoption <br /> activities 11 include litter cleanups, vegetation removal, storm drain stenciling, habitat <br /> restoration, and construction projects. The groups are part of the volunteer component of the <br /> ~ Stormwater Management Program, known as the Eugene Stream Team. <br /> Story teller Yvonne Young, will lead off the remainder of the program by telling stories about <br /> wetlands an the earth. A lecture and slide show titled "Wild Flowers and Habitat of <br /> ! Eugene's W tlands," by Ed Alverson of the Nature Conservancy will follow.
