' . <br /> Public Works <br /> <br /> i City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> N E W S R E L E A S E (503) 687-5262 <br /> July 7, 1993 <br /> CONTACT: Tom Larsen, Project Manager, 341-588b <br /> From Sandra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> CITY TO REPAIR HIGH STREET SINKHOLE <br /> Begirfning Saturday, July 10 at 5 a.m. Eugene Sand and Gravel, under <br /> contract to the city of Eugene Public Works Department, will begin repairing <br /> the sinkhole on High Street between 7th and 8th avenues. The street will be <br /> closed to all traffic beginning early Saturday morning and will be reopened <br /> by 6 a.m. on Monday, July 12, before the morning rush hour. <br /> The Sinkhole, which appeared June 18, was created by a break in a sewer <br /> line 18 tp 20 feet underground. During the repairs, the contractor will <br /> excavate to a depth of 20 feet and will fix the break in the line and will <br /> install a,.new manhole in High Street. In addition, the service line that <br /> serves City Hall will be upgraded. The upgrade will include replacing the <br /> existing six inch concrete line with an eight inch pipe made of PVC, which is <br /> longer lasting and requires less maintenance. The emergency repair will cost <br /> $9,500. <br /> Nort bpund motorists will be detoured west on 8th to Oak during the <br /> two-day project. <br /> <br />
