• _ - <br /> <br /> w. ~ ~ - <br /> Public Works <br /> City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> JULY 30, 1993 <br /> CONTACT: Tom Larsen, Project Manager, 341-5886 <br /> From Public Information Section, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> WIDENING OF WEST 11TH SET TO BEGIN <br /> Widening and other improvements to a heavily traveled section of West <br /> 11th Avenue from Garfield to Tyinn are scheduled to begin in August. <br /> Utilities currently are being moved in preparation for the widening work. <br /> The $1.8 million project is needed to relieve congestion and reduce <br /> accidents in the primarily commercial district, where traffic has increased <br /> 40 percent in the past seven years. Currently, the traffic count averages <br /> 37,000 vehicles per day, with an average of 86 accidents per year. <br /> The project includes widening a six-block section of West 11th to five <br /> lanes wish two lanes in each direction and a center lane for left turns. <br /> The sideu~alk network from Garfield to Bailey Hill Road will be completed as <br /> part of the project. New sidewalks will be eight feet with curb ramps at <br /> intersections. <br /> Stare and city capital improvement funds will be used to pay for the <br /> street improvements. In areas where there currently are no sidewalks, <br /> adjacent prpperty owners will pay for the sidewalks. <br /> Wor is expected to take approximately three months to complete and will <br /> require detours and lane closures.
