This is the second of three areas the City will be smoke testing <br /> this summe . <br /> Durin the testing, crews will use a nontoxic, white smoke. The smoke <br /> is release into the sewer lines to find improper connections to the sanitary <br /> sewer cyst m or faults in the lines. Smoke testing is endorsed by the <br /> Environmen al',Protection Agency in all regions of the country. <br /> If private sewer connections and building plumbing have been installed <br /> correctly, Ith~ smoke should not enter homes. The smoke, however, will be <br /> visible coming from the manholes in the street and from plumbing vents on the <br /> roof and ex e?^ior of the buildings. Homeowners in the testing area are asked <br /> to fill all dt~ain traps with water to prevent smoke from entering the house. <br /> The te~tiing program will alert property owners to leaks in their <br /> plumbing systems. If a resident sees traces of smoke entering the home, it <br /> <br /> means the house is improperly plumbed and is also allowing sewer gases to <br /> more <br /> I <br /> <br />
