r
Public Works
City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
Eugene, Oregon 97401
N E W S R E L E A S E (503) 687-5262
AUGUST 26, 1993
CONTACT: Les Lyle, City Engineer, 687-5291
Paul Klope, Project Manager, 687-5246
From Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FERRY STREET BRIDGE TO BE REPAVED
A three-week project to repair and repave the Ferry Street Bridge is
scheduled to begin Thursday, September 1.
Last winter's snow and ice conditions took a heavy toll on the bridge.
The bridge's surface, which was last repaved in 1985, has become rough and
rutted, in part because of chains and studded tires used during the prolonged
snowstorm last January.
Beginning September 7, Eugene Sand & Gravel, under contract to the City
of Eugene, will remove the old asphalt surface by a process known as
rotomilling. A large steel joint at the south end of the bridge will be
repaired, and some minor storm sewer repairs will be made. The travel lanes
from 200 feet north of the bridge to and including the Seventh Avenue and
Franklin Boulevard on-ramps will be repaved using a special type of asphalt
designed to be more resistant to wear and cracking than standard asphalt
mixes. Construction is scheduled to be completed by September 24, weather
permitting.,
{more)
