Public Works
Administration
N E W S R E L E A S E City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
SEPTEMBER 1, 1993 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
CONTACT: Nancy Burns, Engineering Specialist, 687-5086
From Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMMEpIATE RELEASE
FLOOD HAZARD INFORMATION AVAILABLE
More than 68,00 Eugene households will receive flood hazard information
with their September utility bills. The owners of approximately 3,000
properties within a designated special flood hazard area will get additional
information in October.
The information is prepared by the city of Eugene to increase awareness
of flood. hazards and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Because
the city participates in the NFIP and the Community Rating System (CRS),
insurance premiums for flood insurance are reduced five percent within
Eugene's urban growth boundary.
Flood insurance is available not only for properties within the flood
hazard areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),
but alsq may be purchased for properties outside such areas that still may be
subject',to localized flooding. The city's participation also ensures federal
financial assistance to repair and reconstruct insurable buildings within the
special flood hazard area if a flood occurs and the community is declared a

federal disaster area.
