Wet <br /> leaves on si ewalks are slippery and hazardous for pedestrians. <br /> Zucke offered the following suggestions for placing leaves safely in the street. Pile <br /> leaves on th street surface near the gutter, keeping the gutter and catch basins free of <br /> leaves. Wi drove the leaves so they do not obstruct the flow of water along the curb. On <br /> streets with ut curbs and gutters, pile the leaves near the street surface, away from ditches. <br /> Stack the le ves so they don't block bike and traffic lanes or create hazardous situations for <br /> bicyclists a d motorists. Only pile leaves in a bike lane when there is no other alternative, <br /> such as hau ing the leaves to the City's stockpile site, or placing them on a side street. If <br /> there is no lternative but to place leaves in bike lanes, keep at least half the lane's width <br /> open for bi ycles. <br /> The c'ty will keep a stockpile of leaves at the overflow parking lot at Alton Baker <br /> Park on the east side of Day Island Road. This is the same site used last year, and signs <br /> will be pos ed to help people locate the correct parking lot. <br /> Leav s at the stockpile site are available to citizens for composting. Residents also <br /> may dump eaves on the stockpile if they do not want to wait for the scheduled pickup in <br /> ! their area. Only leaves may be dumped at the stockpile.
