~I~ ~t
5~~~~'L
Jl~
Public Works
Administration
City of Eugene
OCTOBE 14, 1994 858 Pearl Street
CONTAC Richard Zucker, 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
FROM Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR I EDIATE RELEASE
CITY TO BEGIN FALL LEAF PICKUP
The ity of Eugene's annual leaf pickup program will begin Monday, October 24, and
continue t ough January 6, 1995.
The ity divides the community into five areas, and each area is scheduled for two
collections. Depending on the amount of leaves that have accumulated on the streets,
Maintenan e crews may make unscheduled pickups in some areas during the first week once
collections in the downtown core area are completed. Unscheduled pickups will not change
the regular schedule.
City rews cannot collect scattered leaves or leaf piles that are stacked under or very
close to pa ked cars. Debris other than leaves, such as branches, rocks, metal, and lawn
clippings, ill not be collected. To ensure leaves are picked up during the scheduled
collection es, residents should pile leaves in the street the weekend before the scheduled
pickup tim . Residents are asked not to place their leaves in the street more than a week
before the' scheduled pickup because even properly piled leaves can contribute to drainage
and storm ater pollution problems. After January 6, property owners will be responsible
for removi g any leaves that are left in front of their homes.
I
~I
