E gene Sand and Gravel, contractors for the $280,000 project, will close the road at <br /> 7 a.m. each morning and open it again at 6 p.m. each night. <br /> Traffi will be detoured each day to allow the contractor to spray hot oil onto the street <br /> surface. T e oil is a binder that makes the existing asphalt and the new asphalt compress and <br /> bind togeth r. If a vehicle travels on the street surface while the oiI is still wet, its wheels <br /> can flip th hot oil onto the car body. The oil requires a special cleaning compound to <br /> remove it. <br /> Durin the road construction project, which began in mid-May, Eugene Sand and Gravel <br /> i <br /> has adjuste the corner of West 28th and Jefferson to better accommodate bus traffic, <br /> constructe an island at West 28th and Washington to allow safer crossing for pedestrians and <br /> <br /> i <br /> improve th right turn for east bound traffic, added new bicycle lanes on both sides of West <br /> 28th, and r paved the street. <br /> Moto fists are asked to avoid the area "during the street closures if possible. Lane Transit <br /> District de urs also will remain in effect at least through Thursday. <br /> The roject is paid for through City of Eugene road funds. <br /> <br />
