The 60- to 100-foot-tall trees are <br /> located in e West Park block, on the west side of Oak Street and the south side of Eighth <br /> Avenue. iry tree maintenance staff will remove them during the week of November 28. <br /> The trees were examined by Jan Staszewski, the City's urban forester, and by Mari <br /> Kramer, a acting forestry agent for the local office of the OSU Extension Service. Both <br /> tree expe agreed that four of the I6 trees in the park blocks are in hazardous condition due <br /> to extensiv brown rot and other unsafe conditions, such as open cavities, broken tops, and <br /> weakened p limbs. Most likely, high winds or heavy accumulations of snow or ice caused <br /> the origina tops of these trees to break off, allowing decay-causing fungus to enter the <br /> heartwood There are no cures or preventive measures that can be taken to stem the <br /> advancem t of the decay. <br /> Th evaluations found two of the trees with hazard ratings of 8 and two of the trees <br /> with hazar ratings of 9.
