News Rele a Pump Station and River Crossing Project
July 13, 19 4
Page 2
The excavation will cause some turbidity (clouding) of the water. Turbidity results
when the s' t on the river bottom is disturbed during the trenching work. The entire process
has been th roughly reviewed by the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Oregon
Division o State Lands (ODSL), and the Army Corps of Engineers. These agencies have
issued per its to the City to ensure the project will not disturb fish or aquatic life. The
' contractor ust work within the guidelines outlined in the permits. The ODSL will monitor
the project closely.
Ac rding to Project Manager Doug Weber, similar installations have occurred in
Eugene an other locations downstream using this technique, with excellent results.
Phase II
The second phase of construction will begin this September. It will continue through
August 19 5 and will include construction of a new pump station and installation of new
gravity se er pipes to connect the existing sewer lines to the new system.
~ Th new pump station will be built in Glenwood, just north of the Auto Brokers on
Franklin B ulevard. It will replace the Judkins Point Pump Station, which is located near the
Black Ang s Restaurant in Eugene. The Judkins Point Pump Station was built in the 1950s.

,j
It is at its perational capacity, and, with only one pump and no back up, it is no longer
reliable. a new pump station and sewer lines ultimately will supply the additional capacity
needed to erve the Glenwood/Laural Hill area.
Ne sewer lines will be installed to connect the system to the new pump station. One
of the line will be constructed down the center of Franklin Boulevard.
Summary
W n completed, the pump station and lines will serve the Laurel Hill area and the
commerci district south of I-5 within the Eugene city limits. The pump station will be built
so that ad itional pumps can be added to serve the Glenwood area if citizens choose to
connect to the system
Fo information about the project, call Public Works Engineering at 687-5219.
