A weather emergency is
defined a sleet, freezing rain, or icy weather or when more than one inch of
snow accu ulates on streets within the city limits. While the ordinance is
in effect all parking along priority one, two, and three streets would be
banned un it the emergency was over. The ordinance also gives the city the
authority to tow vehicles parked or stranded along priority routes, and to
close any street to vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
` ~ If fo some reason a vehicle becomes stalled on a route where a parking
ban is in effect, the driver would have to take immediate action to have the
vehicle t wed or pushed to the first road that was not a designated snow
emergency route.
Acco ding to city of Eugene Maintenance Director Bob Hammitt, parking
vehicles long icy and snowy streets often hampers emergency snow plowing and
` sanding o erations and can create problems for motorists traveling on icy
streets. Keeping critical snow routes open ensures that emergency vehicles,
buses, an traffic can move safely around town, Hammitt continued.
more
