i News Relea a Wayne Morse Ranch Master Plan Report
I, June 17, 1 92
Page 2
include de eloping informational and educational programs for children and
visitors; estoring the barn, shed, fencing, and specific landscape elements;
hosting sp cial events, tours, and programs; developing a volunteer steward
and docent program; and enhancing the farm's scenic qualities.
Two preliminary options for managing the stream and wetland areas are
outlined in the draft plan.
Opti n 1 proposes leaving a minimum eight-foot strip unmown on either
side of t e stream, except at a small crossing near the northwest gate into
the pastu e. Public use of the pasture would remain essentially
unrestric ed, depending on the outcome of the off-leash dog policy. The

~rr stream ch nnel would be deepened to the north of the pasture, where a series
of small aterfalls now occur. To control flooding, the falls would be
broadened and a small flood pool excavated to keep winter storm flows in the
steam cou se.
Opti n 2 includes the steps outlined in Option 1, plus an increase in
the unmow d area around the small wetland areas. This would allow the
wetland a eas to expand as far as natural soil and moisture conditions would
allow. T is option includes restricting public use of the pasture and
involves program to share use of the park with the general public, a
boarded h rses lease arrangement, and occasional special livestock and
equestria events.
Com ents received in connection with the February 13, 1992 hearing on
the off-1 ash dog program will be added to any comments received at the
meetings n July 9.
