Crews will return for the second pickup Dec. <br /> 14 throng Dec. 18. <br /> Sout east Eugene, the area east of Willamette Street and south of 18th <br /> Avenue, w 11 be picked up Nov. 16 through Nov. 20. The second pickup is <br /> scheduled for Dec. 21 through Dec. 31. <br /> The outhwest Eugene area, which includes the area west of Willamette <br /> Street an south of 18th Avenue, will be picked up Nov. 23 through Nov. 27 <br /> and again Jan. 4 through Jan. 8. <br /> Bike lanes along major arterials will be picked up as needed. <br /> "Lea piles are the responsibility of the property owner until City <br /> crews collect them, so property owners are ultimately liable for any traffic <br /> hazard the create by placing leaves in the street," cautioned Street <br /> Maintenanc Supervisor Richard Zucker. Property owners should be sure that <br /> any leaves they place in the street do not create a hazard for bicyclists or <br /> motorists. Piling leaves so they block a bike lane or cause motorists to <br /> swerve int oncoming traffic are examples of unsafe conditions, Zucker said. <br /> Zucke offered the following suggestions for placing leaves safely in <br /> the street Pile leaves on the street surface near the gutter, keeping <br /> gutter and catch basins free of leaves. On streets without curbs and <br /> gutters, p le the leaves near the street surface, away from ditches. Stack <br /> the leaves so they don't block bike and traffic lanes or create hazardous <br /> situations for bicyclists and motorists. Only pile leaves in a bike lane <br /> <br /> ~r <br /> when there is no other alternative. If leaves must be placed in a bike lane, <br /> more <br /> <br />
