The division
actively promotes efficiency and productivity improvements to keep up with
their increasing infrastructure needs.

~ In the 1 st 20 years, the number of miles in the sanitary sewer line system
has grow from 330 miles to 540 miles. The installation of sanitary sewers
in River Road and Santa Clara over the next five years will add even more
line. In reases in the number of miles and the aging of the existing system
t use ualit mans ement ractices to keep the sewer
mean tha staff mus q y g p
collecti n system in peak operating condition.
Maintena ce operator Ken Boss had an idea for a way to increase the
producti ity of the combination sewer jet and vacuum. The machine is
equipped to clean sewer lines using high-pressure water. The water used in
the oper tion is pumped from fire hydrants and stored in a tank on the truck.
The debr s tank is adjacent to the water storage tank and stores the material
that is leaned from manholes, catch basins, and pump stations. Often the
debris t nk has more capacity than is used in a day. Ken's idea was to
convert he truck so the debris tank could carry additional water for
flushing
~i

I
