<br /> 4 + ,.L <br /> Public Works <br /> City of Eugene <br /> N E W S R E L E A S E Eugene,rOregon 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> March 18, 1992 <br /> CONTACT: Dennis Lueck, Tree Planting Coordinator, 687-5220 <br /> From Sand a Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMED ATE RELEASE <br /> VOLUNTEERS PLANT NEW TREES IN AREA NEIGHBORHOODS <br /> The ity of Eugene Public Works Department has developed a new program <br /> called "N ighborwoods," which is a partnership between neighbors, businesses, <br /> and local government to plant and maintain street trees that enhance the <br /> environme t and the unique identify of each neighborhood. <br /> As p rt of the program, the department will offer area citizens 500 <br /> trees to lant in the rights-of-ways along residential streets. <br /> Two lantings are scheduled for this weekend. On Saturday, March 21, <br /> - volunteer in the Whiteaker neighborhood will plant 40 new street trees. <br /> Planting rews will gather at 9 a.m. at the Whiteaker School at the corner of <br /> North Gra t Street and Clark. Planting will continue throughout the morning <br /> ~ at sites hroughout the neighborhood, as far north as the Rose Garden area <br /> and as fa south as the WOW Hall at 8th and Lincoln. <br /> On unday, March 22, volunteers will plant 22 new trees in the vicinity <br /> of West 1 th Avenue and Hayes Street. Crews will gather at 1 p.m. at 12th <br /> and Hayes, and planting will continue throughout the afternoon. <br /> See attac ed fact sheet for more information on the project. <br /> <br />
