k City of Eu ene Airport Ex ansion--2 The a pansion is funded by $4.3 million in Federal Aviation Administra- tion (FAA) grants, $990,000 from state lottery proceeds, $1.5 million from the the Lane C unty road fund, and over $5 million from the five airlines serving Eugene. E gene voters completed the funding package by approving $5.83 million in general obligation bonds last March. In addition, the City is I allocating $1.1 million from contingency and other funds. Rather than levy j a propert tax to repay the general obligation bonds, the City Council ~ has adopt d an ordinance requiring the debt service to be paid from the City's capital p ojects fund or from other sources including future profit from airport o erations. Land ide facilites will be constructed this summer. The expanded parking area, cov red walkway, new entry and exit roads, signs, rental car facilities, and most f the landscaping will be done by October 15. Expansion of the terminal ill begin this winter. The 3.3 million contract for the landside work was awarded to Wildish C rvallis Construction Company, a local contractor who was low bidder. 11 eight subcontractors working with Wildish on the project are from Lane County. The local project architect is Bob Mention of Mention, i Harms, He lesvig, working in conjunction with TRA in Seattle. Up t 150 construction workers are expected to work on the project this summ r alone. About 40 permanent jobs, primarily among the private businesse at the airport, are expected to result from the expansion project.
