Like Mahlon Sweet, both Charlottesville-Albermarle and Walker
Field had arge enough markets to support more daily flights than the air
lines were offering. Boggs gathered the statistics and marketing data needed
to convinc airline executives the communities had untapped air travel markets
and a prof t-making potential. "He has a broad range of experience in air service
developmen marketing, and economic development as well as skills in airport
operations and financial management. He knows our issues, has managed airport
construction projects, and has the skill to move the airport into the future.
i

~r , He is exactly the type of person we hoped we could find to take over for Bob,"
Andersen said.
The ity began recruiting for a new airport manager in May when Robert
Shelby, director of aviation at Mahlon Sweet for the past 16 years, announced
his plans to retire this fall.
I
1
