Broadway. "Building Safety Is No <br /> Accident" will be the theme of brief presentations by Mayor Brian Obie, <br /> Jean Reed r, general manager of EWER, Jim Johnson, Lane County administrator <br /> II and Jerry Finrow from the University of Oregon. <br /> Brian Obie stated that state and local governments have had the <br /> responsibility for adopting legislation and enforcing ordinances that <br /> protect the health, welfare and safety of their citizens since the beginning <br /> of the nation. "Among the most basic of the laws are those which assure <br /> i <br /> I the public's health and safety in the buildings in which they live, work <br /> I;~ and play. National Building Safety Week represents an opportunity for us <br /> to recognize and to thank our local building safety and fire and emergency <br /> I <br /> ' ~ safety departments for the important health and safety services that they <br /> provide o our community." <br /> i~ During the ceremony, Mayor Obie will present proclamations from Governor <br /> Victor A iyeh to Christine Andersen, Director of the Public Works Department <br /> li and Ever tt Hall, Director of Police, Fire and Emergency Service Department, <br /> recognizing the efforts of state building and fire code personnel to creating <br /> safe and dependable structures and buildings. <br /> <br />
