According to Greg Page, project manager, the area
needs a n w state-of-the-art radio transmission system to provide a more
reliable ublic safety communications network for city ambulances, the 9-1-1
center, a d the police, fire and public works departments. The new site
would pro ide primary public emergency radio transmissions and would serve
the Venet Elmira, and Crow areas to the McKenzie Bridge and the Goshen and
Creswell reas to about Harrisburg, he said.
"The current radio transmitter site is over 25 years old and is at
I
maximum c pacity," Page said. "It was build when Eugene covered a much
smaller g ographic area. In fact, with our present range, the fire department
cannot us the tower to reach medic units when they are outside the city. We
need a ra io transmitter that will meet our communication needs for the next
25 years.
more
