<br /> i ~`i I <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> 1 <br /> June 22, 1 87 <br /> i <br /> { <br /> CONTACT: arry Reed, Building Official, 687-5229 <br /> andra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> CITY OFFERS CLASS ON SOLAR SETBACK DESIGN <br /> The ity of Eugene Building Safety Division will host a three-hour class <br /> f for archi ects, engineers, and house/duplex designers on solar setback <br /> standards Thursday, June 25, from 7 to 10 p.m ~ in the Souza Room at the <br /> Eugene Co ference Center. <br /> The ugene City Council, after a year of discussion, adopted the solar <br /> access or finance in August, 1986. In January of this year, two sections of <br /> of the ne solar access ordinance were put into effect. Solar design <br /> i <br /> standards for new subdivisions and planned unit developments was effective <br /> January 1 1987, and solar access guarantees, which protects existing lots <br /> from the hade created by certain trees, was effective on January 31, 1987. <br /> The third section of the ordinance that relates to solar setback standards <br /> will beco a effective on July 1, 1987. <br /> The olar setback standard requires new buildings or home additions to be <br /> setback d/or designed in such a way so as to minimize the shade on <br /> i <br /> neighboring buildings. Currently, the City protects the solar access of <br /> building in industrial zoning districts but provides no long-term protection <br /> for bull ings in residential or commercial zoning districts. <br /> more <br /> <br />
