In January of this year, two sections of <br /> of the ne solar access ordinance were put into effect. Solar design <br /> i <br /> standards for new subdivisions and planned unit developments was effective <br /> January 1 1987, and solar access guarantees, which protects existing lots <br /> from the hade created by certain trees, was effective on January 31, 1987. <br /> The third section of the ordinance that relates to solar setback standards <br /> will beco a effective on July 1, 1987. <br /> The olar setback standard requires new buildings or home additions to be <br /> setback d/or designed in such a way so as to minimize the shade on <br /> i <br /> neighboring buildings. Currently, the City protects the solar access of <br /> building in industrial zoning districts but provides no long-term protection <br /> for bull ings in residential or commercial zoning districts. <br /> more <br /> <br />
