The dedication ceremony is planned to <br /> coincide ith the Oregon Transportation Commission's September meeting <br /> being hel in Eugene that day. <br /> Spea ers at the dedication include Oregon Transportation Commission Chair <br /> Mike Holl rn, Mayor Brian B. Obie, Jim Saul, an active supporter of the <br /> project, nd Christine Andersen, director of the city's Public Works <br /> departmen . <br /> In 1 85, the State of Oregon and the City of Eugene entered into a <br /> cooperate a agreement to reconstruct and widen 6th and 7th Avenues from <br /> Garfield treet to High Street. According to Dave Reinhard, Public Works <br /> transport tion engineer, the ceremony presents an opportunity for the city <br /> to thank he State and the community for their support and help during the <br /> last thre years and to celebrate the completion of the city's most extensive <br /> and impor ant road construction project to date. "These streets link nearly <br /> all majo arterial roads in Eugene, and are a vital element in the area's <br /> ~ transpor ation system," Reinhard said. <br /> The roject began in the summer of 1985 with the reconstruction of both <br /> 6th and th Avenues from Washington Street to High Street.
