City crews also opened Chambers Street between Second and <br /> Sixth Av Hues to ensure access to businesses located on Fifth Avenue west of <br /> Almaden treet. <br /> In anuary, 1987, to reduce through traffic in the residential section <br /> of the n ighborhood, the City Council approved the installation of a <br /> temporar diverter at the completion of the Chambers Connector. <br /> His orically, local traffic has used Fifth Avenue as a throughway, <br /> <br /> i <br /> j connecti g the east and west sections of town. The city has received numerous <br /> requests from residents of the area to maintain Fifth Avenue as a residential <br /> street. According to Bob Noble of the city's transportation division, to <br /> respond o the citizen requests, staff found it necessary to separate the <br /> commerci 1 traffic from local usage by installing the diverter. <br /> i <br /> more <br /> <br />
