San <br /> Bernadino 's an older city with a population of 140,000 people located 35 <br /> miles west of Palm Springs. Their building department is focusing on <br /> cleaning u substandard housing and on preserving their housing stock," Reed <br /> <br /> ~ continued. "Part of my new duties will be to establish a permit center, <br /> similar to Eugene's Permit and Information Center, which includes relocating <br /> their engi Bering and planning departments into one center. Their goal is <br /> similar to Eugene's. They want to create a one-stop approach to obtaining <br /> permits an develop better communication with the building community." <br /> Durin Reed's years with the city, he was involved in a number of key <br /> <br /> I <br /> projects. He supervised the move and start up of the Building Division in <br /> the Permit and Information Center. He was instrumental in developing an <br /> ethic within the Building Division for working more closely with customers. <br /> Reed also eveloped the idea for predevelopment conferences, which provide an <br /> opportunit for area developers and builders to discuss a project with City <br /> staff and to identify key decision points before a project begins. Working <br /> with the hamber of Commerce, Reed also spearheaded the creation of the <br /> Building onstruction Advisory Committee (BCAC). The BCAC provides a vehicle <br /> for the uilding community to give input on the service delivery of the <br /> Building afety division. <br /> Reed said it will be difficult to leave his friends. "Although I look <br /> forward t the new challenges, it's always sad to leave good friends and <br /> people yo have worked with for many years.
