IV. SPECIFICATIONS <br />GENERAL DESCRIPTION <br />The Audible-Tactile Pedestrian Signal System shall consist of all electronic control equipment, <br />mounting hardware, push buttons, and sign face, which is designed to provide both a button <br />with a raised vibrating tactile arrow on the button along with a variety of audible sounds for <br />different pedestrian signal functions. The System shall consist of a Control Unit and Pole <br />Mounting Assembly, as described below, and hand held infrared device to program the settings <br />with. <br />1. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS <br />a. The system shall be able to be set to vibrate a tactile arrow button during the WALK <br />interval following a button push and/or every time the walk comes up. <br />b. The system shall have the field-selectable function known as "Locating Tone". This <br />means that during the FLASHING DON'T WALK and the DON'T WALK intervals, the <br />system shall provide a locating tone that emanates from the Pedestrian Push Button <br />Station. <br />c. The system shall have the field selectable function known as "Extended Push <br />Activation". This means that the audible WALK message will only be activated and <br />sound during the WALK interval if the button is depressed for a field selectable minimum <br />period of time. Also, for the following walk phase, the volumes will be increased to play <br />at a settable minimum volume level: <br />d. All volumes and optional features are to be settable using a handheld infrared device <br />with password security. <br />e. The sysfem shall h~ve the field selectable function known as "Informational Message". <br />This means that the direction of travel or a custom message giving the location of the <br />street to cross and the intersection (or other information) will be vocalized only when the <br />button is depressed for a minimum field selectable time. <br />f. The system shall have at least five field selectable walk sound options including a <br />cuckoo, a chirp and a standard or custom voice message. <br />g. The system shall be capable of providing an audible countdown of the time remaining <br />during the pedestrian clearance interval. <br />h. All sound levels shall adjust automatically in response to ambient noise over a 60 <br />decibel range. <br />i. All electronic components and wiring shall operate within a temperature range of -34° to <br />+74°C. <br />j. All field selectable options must be settable using an infrared remote with password <br />security. <br />2. CONTROL UNIT <br />Shall be mounted in the ped head and be powered from the 120 VAC, WALK/DON'T WALK <br />ped head lamp indications. The unit shall conform ~o the following specifications. <br />a. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 120 VAC, 60Hz, (100 ma, typical) <br />
