I
EUGENE re!ea9 e
November 5, 2003
CONTACT:
• Carolyn Weiss, Parks and Open Space Planner, 682-4914
• Therese Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814 or 682-
4800
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMMUNITY INVITED TO SHARE IDEAS FOR IMPROVING AMAZON PARK AT SECOND
PUBLIC WORKSHOP
All community members are welcome to attend the second in a series of public workshops
about Amazon Park Thursday, November 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hilyard Community Center,
2580 Hilyard in Eugene. Funds from the 1998 Parks and Open Space bond measure are
available to provide some improvements to south Eugene's most popular and heavily-used
park.
Over 60 community members attended the first workshop in September. A draft
development plan is being created, based on the diverse input gathered at the first meeting. The
plan will identify long-range and short-range priorities for the park and will be the focus of
discussion at the next workshop. The current Amazon Park planning process is designed to
prioritize improvement projects to help determine how to spend the available bond measure
funds and update the existing master plan, based on more current public input.
The community park includes a large playground, pool facility, ballfields, a running trail, bike
path, off-leash dog park, skatepark, and natural areas. For more information or to give input, call
NI 682-4914 or e-mail carolyn.j.weiss@ci.eugene.or.us.
I ###
