Bridge construction update -The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, USA Page 1 of 1
www.registerguard.com I ©The Register-Guard, Eugene,Oregon
November 23, 2003
Bridge construction update
Though motorists navigating the Interstate 5 bridges over the
McKenzie and Willamette rivers may notice little outward
progress on the work to build replacement bridges the work
indeed continues.
Workers will continue building the work bridge over the
Willamette River from the north bank. The contractor is using
the bridge for worker and equipment access as crews drill
footings for the detour bridge.
Construction access to the work area is from North Walnut
Road in Alton Baker Park, off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
near Autzen Stadium.
Cyclists and pedestrians using trails in Alton Baker Park should
watch for trucks and other construction equipment.
The Canoe Canal Trail is now open to trail users. The Riverfront
L Bike Trail, on the north bank of the Willamette River under the
I-5 Bridge, is closed. Signs will direct people to the open paths.
Work has begun on the McKenzie River Bridge.
The contractor will begin building access from the north bank
to bridge footing locations. Motorists and others should watch
for construction vehicles on McKenzie View Drive.
The Oregon Department of Transportation will hold tours for
the public on the first Thursday of each month.
1
a
http://www.registerguard.com/cgi-bin/printStory.py?name=c5.cr.bridgeupdate.1123&date=2... 11/24/03
