5 p.m., families will be invited to visit several interactive theme rooms at Centro to get treats, meet staff, and access
educational materials. Another community partner, Le Petit Gourmet/Network Charter School, will be making calaveritas
de azucar, traditional candy skulls for the event. And, as in the past, the Whiteaker Public Safety Station will be
transformed into the House of Spiders for children to walk, crawl and climb through.
The Dia de los Muertos celebration offers a unique opportunity for staff from all involved organizations to have positive
interactions with families who may not otherwise seek their services. As a true community partnership, the event relies
heavily on contributions from area businesses and volunteers. Much of the candy that will be passed out is donated by
City staff, while volunteers from local area high schools, Eugene Police Senior Patrol and the Whiteaker Community
Council will help with outreach and provide logistical support at the party. Dia de los Muertos is a free event open to all
community members. For more information, call Carmen Urbina at Centro LatinoAmericano, 687-2667, or Lupe Jungwirth
at the Whiteaker Public Safety Station, 682-8188.
