cENEews relea&e
October 24, 2003
CONTACT:
• Lorna Baldwin, Stream Team Coordinator, 682-4850, 913-1292 (cell phone on day of the
event only)
• Therese Picado, Public Information Specialist, Parks and Open Space, 682-4814 or 682-
4800
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Volunteers Plant Native Vegetation Along Creek at Tugman Park this Saturday
On Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, Eugene Stream Team volunteers will
plant native plants and seed at the site of the newly enhanced creek at Tugman Park, located
near Hilyard and 36`x' Avenue in the westernmost portion of the park. Tools, gloves, snacks, and
work instructions will be provided.
Undertaken by Eugene's Public Works Engineering Division with input from area
neighbors, the enhancement project lengthened the stream in an effort to reduce flooding and
extend seasonal use of the open play field in the park. The enhanced creek also provides
increased water quality and creates the opportunity to enhance habitat and provide on-site
natural resource education.
In addition to planting native plants, boulders and log material have been added, further
enhancing and stabilizing habitat. Stream Team volunteers will provide ongoing monitoring and
planting, as it is anticipated to take two years for the vegetation to fully establish.
For more information about future volunteer projects at the park, call Stream Team at
682-4850.
# # #
