NUMMI % W i a w - - ' W--11 1111I-1111 . '— i
EUGENE ■ tr ' '/' ■ >./ fsw I
August 8, 2003
CONTACT: Terry Colvin, Project Manager, 692-5398
From Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Work Starts On Tugman Creek Stormwater Project
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, August 4, on a project to resolve flooding
issues and restore natural amenities to a portion of Tugman Creek.
Eugene's Public Works Engineering Division designed the project to realign and add
meanders to the existing channeled stream through the westernmost portion of Tugman Park
near 36`x' Avenue and Hilyard Street. This will lengthen the stream, reducing flooding and
extending seasonal use of the open play field in the park. Stream banks will be stabilized with
native vegetation to improve water quality and natural habitat in the stream corridor. New
w..
sidewalks will be constructed to further enhance this area of the park. Once construction is
completed, there will be opportunities for volunteers to plant vegetation and make other
interesting enhancements along the stream through Eugene Stream Team.
Stormwater user fees will fund the $300,000 project, which is scheduled to be completed
in October. Wildish Construction is the general contractor on the job, which originally had been
scheduled for last fall but was delayed due to weather.
During construction, the work zone will be fenced off. Signs will be placed to direct
cyclists, pedestrians, and other park users around the construction area. For more information
on this and other Eugene Public Works projects, call the City's traffic relief hotline at 984-8484,
or visit the internet at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic. For more information about Stream Team,
contact Coordinator Lorna Baldwin at 682-4850.
# ##
Public Works•Administration •City of Eugene•858 Pearl Street•Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262• FAX: (541) 682-6826• www.ci.eugene.or.us
