)
\ EUGENE
April 18, 2003
CONTACT:
• Richard Zucker, park amenities supervisor, 682-4833.
• Beth Bridges, Neighborhood Matching Grants program coordinator, 682-5272
• Jenica Tannenholz, public information support, Parks and Open Space, 682-4814.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEIGHBORS AND PUBLIC WORKS CREWS WORK TOGETHER TO IMPROVE COUNTRY
LANE PARK
Thanks to Public Works crews and local neighbors, Country Lane Park off Sorrel Way in
the Ferry Street Bridge area will be completely overhauled in the next month. Parks
crews removed the old playground equipment and laid out the plans for the new
playground last week, and the Public Works Maintenance concrete crew began
excavation on Tuesday, August 12. When the concrete is ready to be poured, a group
of neighbors has volunteered to help the concrete crew ensure the concrete sets
properly. Once the foundation is complete, the park will be dressed up with new
benches, a picnic table, pathways, spring riders, and a play structure that includes
climbing features and slides. Volunteers will also work side-by-side with parks crews to
install the spring riders and play structure. The spring riders were made possible by a
City of Eugene Neighborhood Matching Grant and fundraising by the local community.
"The volunteers will play an important role in creating a new park in their neighborhood,"
says Park Amenities Supervisor Richard Zucker. "This renovation will truly be a
partnership, and these citizens can take pride in their contributions."
For more information about the park improvement, call Richard Zucker, Parks and Open
Space, at 682-4833. For more information about the Neighborhood Matching Grant
program, call Beth Bridges at 682-5272.
# ##
