EUGENE <br /> July 25, 2003 <br /> CONTACT: <br /> • Lorna Baldwin, Stream Team Coordinator, 682-4850, 913-1292 (cell phone on day of the <br /> event only) <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> YOUNG PEOPLE SPEND VACATION HELPING COMMUNITY <br /> Next Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Eugene Stream Team will employ a <br /> crew of 14 young people from Catholic Heart Work Camp and other local Stream Team youth <br /> volunteers for two days of intensive work, removing invasive plants and salvaging native plants <br /> from wetlands and riparian, or river ecosystem, areas around Eugene, including the Whilamut <br /> Natural Area of Alton Baker Park, West Eugene Wetlands, Alton Baker Park boat launch, <br /> Amazon Creek at Oak Patch, and the Native Plant Nursery, near the Wastewater Treatment <br /> Plant at 410 River Avenue. <br /> A good portion of Stream Team's work force for the two days comes from a pool of <br /> several hundred youth, who are converging on Eugene from locations across the northwest to <br /> work together on community service projects. The youth participating in the Catholic program <br /> pay for the trip, in which they spend four days working on a variety of community service <br /> projects and one day sightseeing and enjoying the company of their local hosts.
