Jack Long
August 15, 1994
Page 2
We are not convinced that beaver dams or vegetation present
serious limitations to the Amazon' s capacity to carry run-
off . We oppose the type of destruction in habitat and
visual amenities that you plan to undertake to "maintain"
this portion of the Amazon. Instead, we want you to allow
neighborhood work parties to tackle this section as you
did with the portion south of Fox Hollow.
If you will not change your plan to use a mechanized flail
mower and destroy the habitat, then why not begin to implement
the proposed redesign to widen and enhance the Creek in
this area? ! By doing so, the city, in the long term, will
be able to develop and retain this section of the Creek as
a natural resource as well as a part of the stormwater
system. It is unacceptable to us that you do otherwise .
-Sincerel , /
f / I/ !o/r
udith and Peter Watt
. 050 Dillard Road •
Eugene
683-1530
cc: Friends of the Amazon Committee
Southeast Neighbors Neighborhood Assoc.
Barbara Keller
