Kanalz
State Conservationist
United States Department of Agriculture
1220 SW Third Avenue, Room 1640
Portland, Oregon 97204
Subject: CHANNEL MAINTENANCE
Mr. Kanalz:
I am writing this letter as follow up to my December 13, 1988 letter sent to
you. That letter was a response to your correspondence to the Eugene City
Council requesting implementation of a herbicide program. As an alternative
to that request I proposed an escalated mechanical maintenance program. The
following work was completed during the past summer:
1. Mechanical cleaning of the A-3 channel from Seneca Road west to the
wildlife refuge approximately 500' West of Wallis Street.
2. Mechanical cleaning of the A-3 channel from Bertelsen Road to Beltline •
Road.
3. Mechanical cleaning of the A-2 channel from Beltline Road to Golden
Gardens Street.
Next summer I plan to clean the A-3 channel from Terry Street to the diversion
dam. If the conditions warrant and time permits I will .also clean the section
of A-3 channel between Beltline Road and Terry Street.
I will assume that the work completed brings us into compliance with the
conditions established by the operation and maintenance agreements and that
the channels are providing the level of flood protection for which they were
originally designed unless I am notified otherwise by you.
Sincerely, --
Bob Hammitt
Maintenance Director
