MEMORANDUM
TO: Chris Andersen, Public Works Director
FROM: Bob Hammitt, Maintenance Director' a
SUBJECT: AMAZON CREEK
Attached is a public notice from the Army Corp of Engineers regarding the
reconnaissance study for the Amazon Channel and also the annual inspection
report. These are for you to share with Randy McDonald during your meeting
with him.
We did not complete the cleaning project south of 24th Avenue on the channel
as we had previously discussed with Randy and the group of interested citi-
zens. After we came to agreement with them about the extent of maintenance to
be done we had to divert resources to the Kinsrow project. Before we got back
to the channel rains set in making it undesirable for us to perform the work
this year. You might let Randy know that as soon as the weather is better,
probably late next spring we will plan on accomplishing the work as agreed on.
You also might let him know that the woody vegetation that we thought the
volunteer effort would remove did not actually get done. When staff inspected
the channel it appeared that almost all of the woody vegetation remained. We
would still like to accomplish this project with the use of volunteers if
possible. If not, we will have staff remove the vegetation as part of the
cleaning effort next spring.
By the way, I did share both of these documents with engineering so we are
indeed communicating with them. If you need some more questions answered
about this project or these documents feel free to contact me.
