Date: 12/07/92
From: Gene Shutt CEWMEGS - RIS1
To: Weber, Doug CEWEDGW - RIS1
Les Lyle CEWELAL - RIS1
Klope, Paul CEWEPWK - RIS1
Hammitt, Bob CEWMJRH - RIS1
Mcvey, Fred CEWMHFM - RIS1
Ritter, Dave CEWMDPR - RIS1
Zucker, Richard CEWMRXZ - RIS1
Subject: This note is to confirm a conversation I had with Doug Weber
on December 7th. Doug asked what our thought process was as it relates to
the Amazon channel slide areas and the recommendations proposed by Dr. Gunnar
Schlieder. Doug was unable to attend the onsite meeting we had with Dr.
Schlieder but our staff did discuss options at the site and after we returned
from the field trip. In essence, Dr. Schlieder recommended some immediate
corrective actions such as minimal cleaning, removing some silt bars and
in some cases relocating some silt bars. He felt there was no urgency to
take any additional actions at this time. We (Bob Hammitt, Dave Ritter and
I) are of the opinion we should move ahead with Dr. Schlieders recommendations
but that the work be done by private contract. Our equipment doesn't have
the reach needed to take the corrective actions as outlined. We would need to
work from both sides of the channel and in some cases from the channel bottom
itself by dropping the crawler tractor in the channel . The water level would
probably prevent us from doing the latter. There may be some contractors
willing to take on the project who would have equipment that would be faster
than ours and could work with only minimal disruption to the terrain.
I explained the above to Doug and he will have his staff pursue getting the
work done by private contract. As Doug indicated, if the work can be done
for less than $10,000 he won't even have to go through any formal bid
process.
This brief summary is an attempt to update everyone who may have been involved
with this process as to our intent. If I have left someone off this list who
should also be aware of this information, please pass it along to them. Les,
maybe you want to let Debra Evans and/or Sandra Gleason know. Fred, I believe
Jack went on this field trip and might appreciate the update. Dave, your job
is to tell Myron Gene
I
0 >.
0
0
0
