at 33rd, 31st, 30th, and 29th (by skate board bowl ) . This work is scheduled to
be done in conjucntion with sediment/vegetation removal at 24th Ave. (see att-
ached note) . Another volunteer work party will be necessary to remove all the
remaining woody vegetation between 31st and 33rd Avenues and to thin out the
large clump of brush/trees growing in the bottom of the channel just north of
the old 29th Avenue crossing.
We also spent considerable time discussing required maintenance at the entrance
to the lined section at 24th Ave. Inspector Todd was very concerned with the
large quantity of sediment collecting within the 300 feet or so south of 24th
Ave. He was fairly insistent that all large vegetation, including trees, grow-
ing along the slopes in this section be removed along with the sediment bars.
This work is on our summer work plan and has been scheduled within the next 2
weeks (see attached note) . Since we are unable to work from the existing banks
and are not permitted to alter bank configuration to support the Gradall , we
will be required to place a tracked vehicle (CAT) in the channel to push
material back to where the Gradall can safely load it into trucks. This will
probably be on the west bank approximately 400 ft south of 24th Ave. Hay bales
will be placed across the lined sectioned just north of 24th Ave. to trap and
collect suspended sediment resulting from this in-channel work.
Aside from 3 small slumps near Chambers, W 11th, & Bertelson, that are to be
repaired this summer, the other major concern the inspector had was with the
blackberries growing on the north bank of the channel along the Fairgrounds.
These are so extensive that it is totally impossible to inspect the bank.
Mowing back these berries will require removal of the fence along the top of
the bank to facilitate use of the flail head on the Gradall from along the
Fairgrounds. This work will be scheduled as time and weather allow.
I am off on vacation for the next 2 weeks, so if you have questions about the
Corps requirements and/or planned maintenace please contact Dave Ritter or
Richard Zucker in my abscence.
ATTACHED MESSAGE
We'd like to begin cleaning the 300 foot section of the
Amazon south of 24th Ave. on Sept. 8th, 9th, or 10th. Please
inform everyone who needs to know and let me know if there is
any problem. I'll call to request a utility locate on Sept 3rd.
