The structures and plantings in the
park were carefully planned for beauty and comfort but unfortunately, because of abuse, it became necessary
to dismantle much of it in order to prevent vandalism and to assist in police patrol. The remaining secluded area
continues to attract undesirable behavior. This unsafe situation acts as a deterrent for others.
With your help, (Doug Post was especially enthusiastic in his efforts to help revive the park), we have
experimented with removing the picnic tables, adding portable toilets and planning neighborhood events in the
park in an attempt to make the park more attractive for neighborhood use. However, after being subjected to
verbal abuse, some physical abuse, public health hazards, and a general unpleasant atmosphere, most neighbors
will no longer visit the park. We recognize that this is a public park for all citizens, but abuse cannot be
tolerated.
Any assistance we receive from you is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
e,g0/12t,
Shannon McCarthy, Chair
West University Neighbors
