This park is not
used at all by neighborhood residents or business employees
but has been taken over totally by drug dealers.
Since the police have cracked down on illegal street activities
on 13th Street, most of the offenders have moved to this park
and they now claim it as theirs. It is not uncommon to see
thirty or forty anti-social street predators in the park and
police surveillance has. resulted in numerous arrests for drug
dealing. After four arrests for drug dealing last Thursday,
an unmarked police surveillance van was surrounded by park
dealers in an attempt to tip over the van. A number of officers
had to be dispatched to the scene to rescue the officer trapped
in the van.
This park has been abused over the years by street offenders
and used as a haven for illegal activities. It has now escalated
to the point of being a public menace.
The University Small Business Association wants the park closed
immediately until the city can determine an alternative use
for the land. This is a crisis and needs swift action.
Please contact us if we can be of any help.
• Sincerely,
•
Richard Greene
University Small Business Association
