eAs t.igka
Morse Ranch Master Plan Update 6c` s /
March 2007 j!ii /q92. d pl Q `
1 . Limit major activity and intensive uses to the west meadow where appropriate
supporting facilities exist.
This is consistent with current uses and programming.
2. Continue to provide overflow parking in the field along Crest Drive for large
summer crowds.
This is consistent with current uses and programming.
3. Plant trees- orchard fashion- to define the limits of the grass parking and to
buffer cars from activity in the field.
Trees have not been planted to define the grass parking from the recreation
activities. Current use patterns do not suggest that this is necessary, and it would
substantially increase maintenance costs, limit the flexibility of the space and
reduce the expansiveness of the open field.
4. Maintain the general character of landscaping around the house. Irrigate,
mow, prune, and replant as necessary.
This is consistent with current maintenance practices. LRCS contract staff do the
mowing and irrigation. POS staff perform the other vegetation management tasks
including pruning or removing trees and other vegetation.
5. Continue using Lafferty Park Playground as a playground for youth.
Lafferty Park is the designated neighborhood park for this area, and as such is the
designated playground location. It should be noted that this playground is in need
of renovation. It does not meet current playground safety or accessibility standards
and does not provide the level of service requested by the neighborhood. Area
neighbors have submitted a Neighborhood Matching Grant to the City to begin
making improvements to the playground if approved.
6. Maintain the general character of the east pasture and stream by mowing and
removing invasive vegetation. Wetland values will be increased in one or more
areas.
This is consistent with current maintenance practices. Since the time of this plan, an
additional stream corridor on the east side of the pasture has been fenced off to
protect the wetland values of that area. (Note: At the request of the dog park users
POS has allowed and through VIP, ha s facilitated, the planting of shade trees in
the meadows.)
7. Maintain the general character of woodlands. Focus attention on removing
poison oak within five feet of the trail center lines. Remove invasive vegetation
(blackberry, ivy, and scotch broom), particularly in the cleared forest area
