HAMMITT Bob
From: NORRIS Linda H
To: MEDLIN Johnny R; SVENDSEN Glen L
Cc: ETTER John F; MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; POST Doug A; BECK Bonnie L
Subject: RE: Rental Rates @ WJ park
Date: Thursday, February 08, 1996 5:40PM
Dick, please call me before you call Barbara. There are some policy conflicts here. I'm assuming we're
raising rates to meet council's goal of recoverning costs. The conflicting policy is that we're also trying to
get more legitimate uses in this park. Let's talk about this. Thanks, Linda
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: NORRIS Linda H; SVENDSEN Glen L
Cc: ETTER John F; MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; POST Doug A; BECK Bonnie L
Subject: Rental Rates @ WJ park
Date: Thursday, February 08, 1996 9:18AM
Hi Glen,
I'm afraid I can't be of much help in answering Linda's
question on what is happening with rates at WJ. Dick Morgan
is out ill today although Bob Hammitt said he might come in
later if he is feeling better. Bob was also unaware of what
the issue may be but noted that Barbara Keller has a call in
for Dick when he returns. Our memory is that we changed the
rental rates at least a year ago but Dick is the best source
of specific information at our division.
The below is likely the issue, but everything I'm getting is
at least second hand info, so please consider it as such..
John Etter who was at the Washington/Jefferson Task Team (Take
Back the Park Committee) meeting told me that a concern was
raised at that meeting in that the rental rate had more than
doubled since the last Fiesta Latino. A feeling was expressed
at the meeting (John thought it may of been by Jan Gund) that
if we are trying to get more legitimate use of the park then
why we discouraging this by the rates becoming prohibitive.
John said that Barbara Keller who was also present at this
meeting suggested that the fees possible could be waived if
the City was to cosponsor the event. John's understanding was
that Bonnie Beck of LRCS from Westmoreland was going to follow
up on this possibility.
I understand that there is discussion about LRCS Recreation
Division taking over the permit process for this facility at
the change of the fiscal year, but I personally am unaware of
the current status of this proposal.
Hope this has been helpful.
Thanks
Johnny
Page 1
