This
one, which will lower the tax rate on corporate dividends, is
even more scandalous than its predecessor two years ago.
Every working man and woman should be outraged. Our
salaries and wages earned by hard work every day will
continue to be taxed, but coupon-clipping income will be taxed
at a lower rate.
Do not let Bush or other Republicans fool you again into
believing that this latest tax cut for themselves is really about
creating jobs. If they truly cared about jobs, they would simply
send to Oregon and other states enough money to restore and
create the family-wage jobs that their recession is forcing us to
destroy - jobs in education, law enforcement, health care and
highway and park maintenance.
Let us all remember well, between now and November 2004,
that to millions of Americans currently without work, or health
care, or sometimes even food, Bush and his Republicans have
responded once again not with jobs, or health plans, or food
programs, but with a huge tax boondoggle for the wealthy.
And, of course, the result is a spiralling national debt that we
working taxpayers will have to shoulder far into the future.
JIM MOONEY
Eugene
Use diplomacy in Iran
Remembering those who gave their lives for our country in
past wars over Memorial Day weekend, we were saddened
when reading that the Bush administration will now try to
destabilize the Iranian government (Register-Guard, May 25).
Intelligence suggests that less than a dozen al-Qaeda
members exist in a remote, northeastern part of Iran - perhaps
http://www.registerguard.com/cgi-bin/printStory.py?name=ed.letters.0601&date=20030601 6/4/03
