How much tax is enough?
What amount would Duemler deem to be a wealthy person's
fair share of Oregon's spending? Do they deserve to be taxed
until their net worth is lowered to an amount that is considered
fair to everyone in the state? Should the wealthy be allowed to
keep only a portion of their incomes that does not exceed my
wages or yours? Where's the line?
What exactly did the wealthy do to cause our state to be
among the highest per capita in our nation for government
spending, while our average wages are among the lowest in
the nation?
Did their purchases of expensive homes hurt our construction
workers? Do their daily purchases of goods and services hurt
our economy? Are they dragging down our health care system?
What have they done to cause the fiscal problems in our state,
and why is the burden theirs?
If you understand that running the wealthy and their local
spending out of our state will only lead to the loss of more jobs,
call your state legislator.
firANN BURKE
http://www.regi sterguard.com/cgi-bin/printStory.py?name=ed.letters.0601&date=2003 0601 6/4/03
