<br /> More than 1,800 Schoolchildren Sian Up for Tours at Public Works Day
<br /> The Eugene Public Works department is hosting its annual open house on Thursday, May
<br /> 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Public Works Yard, 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard. This
<br /> WE year's theme is"We Deliver! Efficiency, Service, Value," recognizing the importance of
<br /> these values in a time of a challenging economy and scarcity of resources. Public Works
<br /> DELIVER! Day is an opportunity for the community to see that the department is making appropriate
<br /> use of vital resources and providing exceptional service and value. A recently completed
<br /> Efficiency project—the improvements to West 11th Avenue between Terry Street and Danebo—will be
<br /> Service featured to illustrate the range of Public Works services, from planning and construction
<br /> Value 'IGEN' management, to erosion control and stormwater management, to post-construction
<br /> `�, wmaintenenace. The open house also will feature information about careers in public works.

<br /> Gardeners Will Get Tips for Dealing With Invasive Plants at Lecture This i �.. •

<br /> Marjolein Schat, an invasive plant specialist, will offer gardeners advice for dealing with invasive species in the second
<br /> lecture in a series sponsored by the Friends of Hendricks Park this spring and summer. The lecture will be held on
<br /> Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Tykeson Room at the Eugene Public Library.
<br /> Schat, who recently completed her master's thesis on bio-control of purple loosestrife at Oregon State University, will
<br /> identify common invasive plants, give strategies for controlling these plants, and discuss why it is important to control
<br /> invasive plants. Upcoming lectures in the series include Birds of Hendricks Park with Dan Gleason on July 14 and Forest
<br /> Ecology with Alan Dickman on September 15. All events are free and open to the public.
