The tree planting will take place at 10 a.m. at <br /> the corner of 16tn Avenue and Ferry Street, where a street tree was burned in a riot last September. Participants in <br /> Saturday's cleanup event will gather at Central Presbyterian Church, 1475 Ferry Street. Refreshments and tools will be <br /> irovided. The event is expected to last until 3 p.m. <br /> The neighborhood cleanup and tree planting was conceived and organized by the West University Task Force which <br /> convened after the riot last year. The event is a collaborative effort between the City of Eugene, University of Oregon, <br /> ASUO, West University Business Association, Central Presbyterian Church, Sanipac, Von Klein Property Management, <br /> Lane County Waste Management, and many neighbors. <br /> Several City programs are involved in the effort. Eugene Police will lend a hand with the cleanup and the NeighborWoods <br /> Program will be planting trees and shrubs. Neighborhood Services will also participate in the cleanup and will be promoting <br /> the revitalization of a West University Neighborhood Association. For more information about the event, contact Steve <br /> Norris in Planning and Development at 682-5009, or e-mail steve.d.norris@ci.eugene.or.us. <br /> Ceremony Dedicates Meadowlark Prairie Improvements <br /> Local and federal officials will be joined by a Native American <br /> elder on Monday morning, May 12, to dedicate the natural and <br /> recreational improvements recently completed at Meadowlark <br /> Prairie in West Eugene.
